Liévin l’entreprenante

Lievin, CX race organizer since 2000 :

Cups, world events, French championships, a European championship, French cups, and now a world championship. The loop is now closed for the city of Liévin, which will host the premier cyclo-cross competition in 2025. The announcement was officially made on Wednesday, October 18, during a press conference organized by the city and the French Cycling Federation. A golden opportunity for Laurent Duporge, Mayor of Liévin. ‘It’s a very exciting opportunity, a chance for the people of Liévin to host such a spectacle here in Val de Souchez,’ he proudly states. ‘We know that Liévin is a cycling hub, and when the FFC secured the organization of this international-level championship, we immediately submitted our application

For three days, cyclists from thirty different nationalities will come to compete on the now legendary Val de Souchez course. The world’s elite will gather in Liévin, with the Dutch delegation led by Van der Poel and Van Empel on the women’s side. But the French riders will have their say. Undoubtedly, French, Belgian, and Dutch supporters will make the journey to Liévin to cheer on the athletes. This is also one of the reasons that led Michel Caillot, president of the FFC, to choose Liévin. ‘Liévin is at the heart of the cycling world due to its geographical location,’ he points out. ‘We expect around 35,000 spectators over three days, nearly 300 journalists; it will be a celebration of cycling.’ Beyond the sporting aspect, hosting such a competition automatically generates economic benefits related to tourism, hospitality, and catering.

“Everyone must play their part, and the city of Liévin will be there,” assures Laurent Duporge.
